Guild of Peculiars - Alpha 0.08

Hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend! Its a bit cold here in Toronto, Canada today. Least it feels that way... considering its nothing like previous years, only 1 degree below zero here. Believe it or not it was around -40C a few years ago on this same day! Recently came back from Cuba, so that could be why this slight cold weather is feeling extra cold for me today.

Despite living in Canada, I'm not a huge fan of winter nor the cold. So I'm staying inside for the most part today, just working on Guild of Peculiars while munching on some unhealthy indie fuel (sour cream onion chips + Pepsi). There is something really warming about working on a game that evolves around light from torches. Its almost as if i can feel the warmth each time i jump i and start testing my levels.

Today marks some really fantastic advancements. As some of you may know, I've been writing the grid movement and battle systems from scratch, in an engine that technically wasn't intended for this type of game-play mechanic. However I really enjoy a good challenge!

Today I'd like to share with you a couple screenshots of how the game is coming along so far:

All visuals do not represent the final look of the game. As you can see its a 4 party member system I'm working with. You have to manage all 4 as you travel throughout the dungeons. Which ever character you currently have selected is the one that can make an attack, but also will be the first member that an enemy will be more likely to attack. Think of it as your active member and this active member has moved to the front of the group.

One might ask if this is a real-time battle system or a turn-based system. Its been a bit of a toss up as to where I plan to go with this, but I've conducting some polls on a Facebook group called Dungeon Crawlers: RetroGaming.  I invite you all to take part in joining in on the poll if you have had previous experiences playing dungeon crawlers. So far I have gone with real-time combat, despite  turn-based combat leading in the preferred polls. However, nothing is set in stone and I'm just going with what is most easiest for me to do for the moment.

I have a lot of work ahead of me as currently there is no way to equip weapons or use items. I think that will be the first challenge to be tackled going forward with v0.08.

Anywho! If you are a fan of dungeon crawlers or this is your first time hearing about one. Come join me on Discord as I share day-by-day development of Guild of Pecuilars!

I am also looking for pre-alpha testers!
